Subfamily: Bastillevirinae

Genus: Wphvirus

Distinguishing features

Genomes of known members fall in the range of 150–160 kbp. Some genomes have long terminal repeats of around 2.5 kbp. The genome of Bacillus phage W.Ph., the exemplar isolate of the representative species Wphvirus WPh, is 156 897 bp with 274 protein coding sequences and no encoded tRNAs (Klumpp et al., 2014). Members of the genus infect Bacillus cereus and Bacillus thuringiensis.

Species demarcation criteria

Members of the same species are more than 95% identical in genome nucleotide sequence, including the terminal repeat region. Phages with genomes that differ by more than 5% are assigned to different species.
