Subfamily: Brockvirinae

Genus: Schiekvirus

Distinguishing features

Genomes of known members fall in the range of 145–146 kbp. The genome of Enterococcus phage EFDG1, the exemplar isolate of the representative species Schiekvirus EFDG1, is 148 kbp with 216 protein coding gene sequences as well as 24 encoded tRNAs (Khalifa et al., 2015a). Members of the genus infect Enterococcus faecalis and E. faecium.

Species demarcation criteria

Members of the same species are more than 95% identical in genome nucleotide sequence, including the terminal repeat region. Phages with genomes that differ by more than 5% are assigned to different species.
