Subfamily: Twortvirinae

Genus: Sciuriunavirus

Distinguishing features

There is only one species in this genus. Staphylococcus phage vB_SscM-1, the exemplar isolate of the species Sciuriunavirus SscM1, has a genome of 139 681 bp with 202 predicted protein coding sequences and no tRNAs (Jurczak-Kurek et al., 2016). Members of the genus infect Staphylococcus sciuri.

Species demarcation criteria

There is only one species in the genus. New members of this species will be assigned based on their being more than 95% identical in genome nucleotide sequence, including the terminal repeat region. Phages with genomes that differ by more than 5% will be assigned to different species.
