Subfamily: Bastillevirinae

Genus: Agatevirus

Distinguishing features

The non-redundant part of the genome of Bacillus phage Agate, the exemplar isolate of the representative species Agatevirus agate, is 149 844 bp with 204 unique protein coding genes (6 repeated in 2669 bp terminal redundancy regions) as well as 4 encoded tRNAs (Barylski et al., 2014). Members of the genus infect B. pumilus.

Species demarcation criteria

Members of the same species are more than 95% identical in genome nucleotide sequence, including the terminal repeat region. Phages with genomes that differ by more than 5% are assigned to different species.
