Subfamily: Spounavirinae

Genus: Okubovirus

Distinguishing features

A representative isolate is Bacillus phage SPO1 of the species Okubovirus SPO1. The non-redundant portion of its genome is 132 562 bp with 204 protein coding sequences as well as 5 encoded tRNAs (Okubo et al., 1972, Stewart et al., 2009, Klumpp et al., 2010). Members of this genus infect Bacillus subtilis.

Species demarcation criteria

Members of the same species are more than 95% identical in genome nucleotide sequence, including the terminal repeat region. Phages with genomes that differ by more than 5% are assigned to different species.
