Family: Herelleviridae

Genus: Klumppvirus

Distinguishing features

The unique portion of the genome of Brochothrix phage A9, the exemplar isolate of Klumppvirus A9, the only known species in the genus, is 127 065 bp with 199 predicted protein coding sequences and 6 tRNAs. The terminal repeats have been estimated to be about 11 kbp, making the full genome about 138 kbp (Kilcher et al., 2010). The only known member of the genus infects Brochothrix thermosphacta.

Species demarcation criteria

There is only one species in the genus. New members of this species will be assigned based on their being more than 95% identical in genome nucleotide sequence, including the terminal repeat region. Phages with genomes that differ by more than 5% will be assigned to different species.
