Subfamily: Bastillevirinae

Genus: Bastillevirus

Distinguishing features

No terminal repeats have been reported for these genomes. The genome of Bacillus phage Bastille, the exemplar isolate of the representative species Bastillevirus bastille, is 153 962 bp with 273 protein coding genes as well as 7 encoded tRNAs. No terminal repeats have been located (Klumpp et al., 2014). Members of the genus infect Bacillus cereus and Bacillus thuringiensis.

Species demarcation criteria

Members of the same species are more than 95% identical in genome nucleotide sequence, including the terminal repeat region. Phages with genomes that differ by more than 5% are assigned to different species.
