Petunia vein clearing virus (PVCV), a member of the sole species in the genus, Petuvirus venapetuniae, is distinguishable from all other members of the Caulimoviridae except for vacciniviruses by its simple genome organization (one ORF) and phylogenetic placement based upon analysis of polymerase gene sequences.
Dioscorea nummularia-associated virus (DNUaV) is a member of the only species in the genus. Its genome encodes four ORFs with ORF3 and ORF4 separated by an intergenic region, and ORF4 encoding a translation transactivator domain.
Virions are unknown.
The genome of Dioscorea nummularia-associated virus comprises 8139 bp with four ORFs.
The members of this genus produce virions and cytoplasmic inclusions similar to those of viruses in the genera Caulimovirus, Petuvirus and Soymovirus but differ from them in genome organization and phylogenetic placement based on analysis of polymerase gene sequences. The order of the movement protein and coat protein is also reversed to that of all other genera in the Caulimoviridae.
