Subfamily: Okanivirinae
Genus: Okavirus
Distinguishing features
The genus description corresponds to the family description, taking account of minor differences in the genome organization including variations in the structure of ORF3 encoding the transmembrane glycoproteins.
Species demarcation criteria
Species demarcation is on the basis of analyses using DEmARC (Lauber and Gorbalenya 2012). Only viruses for which a complete coding genome sequence is available are considered for taxonomic assignment. Species demarcation determined using DEmARC must be consistent with known ecological drivers of okavirus evolution including natural geographic distribution and host range.
