Family: Kolmioviridae
Genus: Deevirus
Distinguishing features
Ray-finned fish virus 1 (RfFV1; previously referred to as fHDV) is the only classified deevirus. Deeviruses infect fish (Chang et al., 2019).
Virion
Virions are unknown.
Nucleic acid
Deeviruses have non-segmented, covalently-closed, circular negative-sense RNA (cccRNA) genomes of about 1.6 kb with 46.3% GC content (Chang et al., 2019).
Proteins
Deeviruses are predicted to express one delta antigen (DAg)-like protein of 180 amino-acid residues (Chang et al., 2019).
Biology
RfFV1 was discovered in a pool of actinopterygian, agnathian, and chondrichthyan fish sampled in China (Chang et al., 2019).
Species demarcation criteria
The genus currently only includes a single species.
