Family: Nyamiviridae

Genus: Tapwovirus

Distinguishing features

Viruses are placed in the genus based upon phylogeny and host range.

Virion

Morphology

Not reported.

Nucleic acid

Bisegmented, negative-sense RNA.

Proteins

The Wēnzhōu tapeworm virus 1 (WzTWV-1) genome encodes 5 proteins including a putative glycoprotein and four hypothetical proteins on RNA 2, and large protein on RNA 1, identified on the basis of sequence similarity and structural properties shared with mononegavirus homologues (Shi et al., 2016).

Genome organization and replication

WzTWV-1 has two negative-sense RNA genome segments with reported sequence data of 6 kb (Shi et al., 2016).

Biology

Tapwoviruses appear to infect tapeworms.
