Family: Inoviridae

Genus: Xylivirus

Distinguishing features

Virions of phage in the genus Xylivirus are filamentous particles of about 1,210 × 8 nm. The genome is 7,190 nt in length and encodes 12 proteins. The exemplar isolate Xanthomonas phage Xf109 infects Xanthomonas oryzae and can persist in the bacterium as a prophage integrated in the host genome at the attB/attP sequence 5′-TATACATTATGCGAA-3′ (Yeh 2017). Xanthomonas phage Xf409 is considered as a variant of Xanthomonas phage Xf109.

Biology

Members of this genus infect Xanthomonas oryzae.

Species demarcation criteria

There is only one species in the genus. Members of additional species will be >5% different in the DNA sequence of their genomes as assessed using the BLASTn algorithm.
