Members lack the 2b ORF that is present in members of the genus Sopolycivirus but – in contrast to members of the genus Chipolycivirus – have the amino acid triplet GDD in motif VI of the RdRP.

Among currently classified members of the family, chipolyciviruses are distinguised by the presence of the amino acid triplet ADD instead of GDD in motif VI of the RdRP (Olendraite et al., 2017).
