There is only one genus in the family.
There is only one species in the genus. Viruses belonging to additional species would be expected to have genome sequence identities of <95%, following the demarcation criterion of other archaeal viruses within the class Caudoviricetes.

The genus Yangshanfusivirus (family: Nipumfusiviridae) includes a single species (Yangshanfusivirus mimetica) for a virus identified via metagenomic sequencing of viral communities in the deep-water environment of Yangshan Harbour, China.
