Distinguishing features

Members of the genus Petorquevirus have genomes of 2.4–2.7 kb and have been identified in a dog (species Canis lupus familiaris, family Canidae), a masked palm civet (species Paguma larvata, family Viverridae) and an American dog tick (species Dermacentor variabilis, family Ixodidae), although this last example may be bloodmeal-derived.

Different species in the genus have orf1 genes with <69% pairwise identity.
