Family: Coronaviridae

Subfamily: Orthocoronavirinae

Distinguishing features

The subfamily Orthocoronavirinae was established for four genera based upon DEmARC analysis of the nidovirus-wide conserved 3CLpro, NiRAN, RdRP, ZBD and HEL1 domains. This subfamily consists of a large clade with 4 distinct branches in phylogenetic trees (Figure 5.Coronaviridae), these corresponding to the genera Alphacoronavirus, Betacoronavirus, Deltacoronavirus and Gammacoronavirus. Members of this subfamily can infect a wide range of mammals and birds.
