Subfamily: Cleopatravirinae
Genus: Carltongylesvirus
Distinguishing features
Members of this genus all infect Escherichia coli. The first isolate was Escherichia phage phiEcoM-GJ1 (Jamalludeen et al., 2008, Jamalludeen et al., 2007). The members of this genus possess genomes with the following (averaged) properties: 52.62 kbp (44.07 % G+C) encoding 77 proteins. Escherichia phage Mangalitsa has 3,234-bp terminal repeats (Atkison et al., 2019). Escherichia phage phiEcoM-GJ1 possesses a capsid of 63 × 55nm and a contractile tail of 120 × 23 nm.
Species demarcation criteria
Members of the same species are more than 95% identical in genome nucleotide sequence, including the terminal repeat region. Viruses with genomes that differ by more than 5% are assigned to different species.
