Version 3 of MSL38, the 2022 ICTV taxonomy release is now available
A new version (v3) of the 2022 ICTV taxonomy is now available online at https://ictv.global/taxonomy. This new version of Master Species List #38 is available for download as an Excel Spreadsheet.
This revised version corrects the following errors:
- Corrects two species names given incorrect genus prefixes, Seawadnavirus gataifale and Kieseladnavirus katao.
- Places the genus Mimivirus in the correct subfamily, Megamimivirinae.
- Corrects a typo in the species name, Alphabaculovirus oxochraceae.
- Corrects typos in the species names, Alphabaculovirus crypeltasticae, Alphabaculovirus altersperidaniae, and Alphabaculovirus speridaniae.
- Fixes the genome composition for several taxa.
The MSL38 release contains taxonomic changes approved by the ICTV Executive Committee in July, 2022 and ratified by the ICTV Membership in March-April, 2023. A paper describing this release, "Recent changes to virus taxonomy ratified by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (2022)" has been published in Archives of Virology.
Official taxonomy proposals documenting these and all other taxonomic changes approved by the ICTV since the publication of the 8th ICTV Report can be found at https://ictv.global/Official_ICTV_Proposals.htm.
