Family: Hadakaviridae
Genus: Hadakavirus
Distinguishing features
As only one genus is currently recognised, the genus description corresponds to the family description.
Species demarcation criteria
There is currently only one species (Hadakavirus nanga) in the genus.
Although hadaka virus 1 (HadV1) isolates 7n and 1NL have eleven or ten genome segments, respectively), they are placed in the same species based on a high overall amino acid sequence identity in RdRP (89%) and similarity in length and nucleotide sequences of the ten common genomic segments (global identity of 67-86%) (Khan et al., 2021). The unclassified virus CfRV1 could represent a new species in the genus because of the low RdRP amino acid sequence identity (<50%) and a limited number (five) of genomic segments identified as being homologous to the HadV1 counterparts (Fu et al., 2022).
