Distinguishing features

A number of viruses in the genus Protobacilladnavirus have been isolated and their physico-chemical and biological properties investigated (see family section). The genus is delineated on the basis of Rep protein phylogeny.

Demarcation criteria for taxa within the genus

Species are demarcated by a threshold of 25% divergence in amino acid sequences in the Rep protein between members of different taxa. Viruses sharing >75% aa sequences of the Rep protein belong to the same species.
