I am curious about the taxonomic details for Tobacco mild green mosaic virus. When I look up this species in the taxon details (Taxon Details | ICTV), I see the earliest entry is for 1993, which doesn't appear to be when the species was officially accepted (compare with Sunn-hemp mosaic virus: Taxon Details | ICTV). When was this species accepted by ICTV? Is there an associated report? Thanks for any insight!
Re: Tobacco mild green mosaic virus
Hello,
As you indicate, there is a problem with the history record for the species, Tobacco mild green mosaic virus. It was created as a species in the genus "Tobamovirus group" in 1991 as part of the update for the ICTV 5th Report. It was then moved (actually the genus name was changed) to the genus Tobamovirus in 1993. We will look into updating the historical record to fix the omission of the original creation of the species.
To find this information, you can search for the species name from the search box of the taxonomy browser, https://ictv.global/taxonomy, and be sure to check the "Select to search across all ICTV releases" box. The search will return a list of all hits. Scroll to the end of this list to see the original taxonomic record for the species.
Best,
Elliot
