Summary
The family Bidnaviridae includes ssDNA(+/-) viruses of invertebrates (Table 1 Bidnaviridae). The family Bidnaviridae was established in 2012 (Master Species List #26).
Table 1 Bidnaviridae. Characteristics of members of the family Bidnaviridae.
| Characteristic | Description |
| Example | Bombyx mori bidensovirus (A: EU623082; B: EU623083), species Bombyx mori bidensovirus, genus Bidensovirus |
| Virion | Icosahedral particles, 25 nm in diameter (Figure 1 Bidnaviridae) |
| Genome | ssDNA(+/-); two linear ambisense segments with a total of 12.5–12.6 kb. The two segments are encapsidated separately (Figure 2 Bidnaviridae) |
| Replication | A rolling-hairpin mechanism |
| Translation | From capped and polyadenylated mRNA |
| Host range | Invertebrates |
| Taxonomy | Realm Monodnaviria, kingdom Shotokuvirae, phylum Cossaviricota, class Mouviricetes, order Polivirales: 1 genus, 1 species (Figure 3 Bidnaviridae) |

Derivation of names
Bidensovirus: from the name Bombyx mori bidensovirus
Bidnaviridae: from the Latin bi meaning "two" and DNA for deoxyribonucleic acid, referring to the segmented ssDNA genomes of viruses in the family; the suffix -viridae for family taxa
