Given a virus species name, have you ever wanted to find information about the viruses classified into that species? Or, starting with the common name of a virus (or in some cases, a disease name), have you ever wanted to find the official species name? To demonstrate how to find this kind of information and more, the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) will present a live webinar that will provide an overview of the tools and resources available on the ICTV Website (https://ictv.global) that provide information about viruses and their taxonomy as well as how to search for that information. The tools to be demonstrated include the virus Taxonomy Browsers, Master Species List, Virus Metadata Resource, and the new Find the Species tool. In addition, web site features that provide descriptive information on virus biology and their genetic and physical properties will be discussed. These include ICTV Report chapters, taxonomy proposals, histories of all virus taxa, the etymology of taxon names, the virus physical properties table, and virion diagrams.
