Biography

I graduated in Biological Sciences and have a PhD in Genetics and Breeding from Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV; 2006). I am currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology at UFV. My work is focused on phages and mycoviruses that infect plant pathogens, the influence that these viruses might have in altering the phenotype of their hosts, and how this interaction can impact the plant microbiome and be used in the development of more sustainable agricultural practices. This work led to the description of a number of new phages and mycoviruses. I have been a member of the ICTV Prokaryote Viruses Subcommittee since 2018.
