Members of the genus Botrytimonavirus are distinct from those of other genera by phylogenetic analysis of the RdRP gene (Figure 5.Mymonaviridae) with <32% amino acid sequence identity for the L protein. The genome is a single molecule of linear, negative-sense RNA of about 10.0 kb with four or more ORFs separated by non-coding intergenic regions containing highly conserved gene-junction sequences. Currently known genome sequences are incomplete. Virions, antigenicity, and biology have not been reported. Members have been identified via high-throughput sequencing either in fungi or in plant lesions caused by fungi.
Species demarcation criteria
Members of different species in the genus differ by >30% in nucleoprotein amino acid sequence and by >30% in their coding-complete or complete genome nucleotide sequence.
