The family Soleiviridae includes dsDNA viruses that infect a hyperhalophilic archaeon of the genus Haloarcula (Table 1.Soleiviridae). The family Soleiviridae was established in 2022 (Master Species List 37).

Derivation of name
Soleiviridae: Truncation of solar [saltern] and Eilat (referring to the place of isolation).
