Distinguishing features

Viruses in the genus Kieseladnavirus have been identified by metagenomic analyses of samples from animal tissue or environmental sources (benthic sediment). There are no physico-chemical or biological data that distinguish them from other bacilladnavirids. The genus is delineated on the basis of Rep protein phylogeny.

Demarcation criteria for taxa within the genus

Species are demarcated by a threshold of 25% divergence in amino acid sequences in the Rep protein between members of different taxa. Viruses sharing >75% aa sequences of the Rep protein belong to the same species.
