Holly Hughes received her Ph.D. in Microbiology in 2010 from Colorado State University (CO, USA) studying dengue virus vaccine development. Following postdoctoral training at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (Ames, Iowa, USA) investigating influenza pathogenesis in pigs, she joined the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division of Vector-Borne Diseases in 2016 as a Research Microbiologist. Her laboratory focuses on molecular epidemiology, bioinformatics, and developing tools for molecular diagnosis of arboviral pathogens such as metagenomic next-generation sequencing. She joined the ICTV as a member of the Peribunyaviridae Study Group in 2018, and was Chair of the Peribunyaviridae Study Group in 2021.
